Questions & answers
Visas, seasons, booking, altitude and safety — what travelers ask us most.
Do I need a visa for the Silk Road countries?
It depends on your passport. Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan are visa-free for many nationalities, Tajikistan has an online e-visa, and Turkmenistan, Iran and China usually need a visa arranged in advance. Rules change often, so we check them for your passport with your quote and provide invitation letters where needed.
Do I need a permit for the Pamir Highway?
Yes. Travel in GBAO, the Pamir region of Tajikistan, needs a GBAO permit in addition to your visa. We arrange it together with your booking.
When is the best time to travel?
Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) are best for the great cities like Samarkand, Bukhara and Isfahan. June to September is the season for the mountains — the Pamir, the Tien Shan and Mongolia. Winter suits short city breaks and the desert cities of Iran.
How do I book, and when do I pay?
Send a request on the tour page — it's free and needs no prepayment. A manager replies within one business day to confirm dates and availability and sends a written quote. Payment terms and the cancellation policy are agreed in that quote before anything is paid.
Can you tailor a tour or run it privately?
Yes. Any route can run privately on your dates, and we can combine countries, add nights or change the pace. Tell us your idea in the contact form or on WhatsApp.
How big are the groups?
Most departures are small groups of up to 12 travelers — the exact size is shown on each tour page.
Is it safe to travel in Central Asia?
Central Asia is widely considered a welcoming region for travelers. Our local guides and drivers know the roads and conditions, and we follow current official travel advice when planning routes.
What about altitude in the mountains?
Mountain routes such as the Pamir Highway reach over 4,000 m. Itineraries climb gradually, and each tour shows its difficulty level. If you have health concerns, check with your doctor before booking.
Is travel insurance included?
No. Travel insurance is not included and we strongly recommend a policy that covers your activities and altitude. Each tour lists exactly what is and isn't included.
Which languages do your guides speak?
Our guides work in English and Russian. Ask us if you need another language — we will try to arrange it.

Ready to set off on the Silk Road?
Book a place on a tour or ask for a private itinerary. No prepayment — you pay after a manager confirms the details.
